I was raised in Northern Idaho learning how to work with draft horses, logging out the steep hillsides, and for farm work, also riding and working the stock. My grandfather and great uncles raised, broke and trained many horses. They are where I learned about the horse business, learning just exactly what a good horse was.
I have broke, and trained all types of horses and mules. From pulling to packing in Alaska, North Idaho, and Montana also moving and working cattle periodically. I have always had good horses on my place, always will.
I started breeding Poco Bueno horses 20 years ago with the purchase of a Poco Willy bred mare. Then in 1997 I bought Mr Blackburn 955, a 100% foundation dun stallion and have been breeding him to my Poco Willy mare and my other foundation bred mares. I sold "Champ" to Tony Kruger in the spring of 2005 along with one of his buttermilk dun sons out of Rings Pretty Peppy. I have kept many of "Champ's" daughters and will be offering some good foals in the future out of these wonderful dun mares.
I am concentrating on a breeding program that produces good using horses with brains that just happen to be dun in color, 100% in foundation blood and have gentle dispositions. I have sold horses that went to many different states, Arizona, Lousiana, Montana, Oregon, Washington, California, Canada and many others.
I consider Dillon Shook from the FQHR to be a good friend, the man knows his horses, and I wouldn't consider registering my horses with any other foundation organization. As far as I am concerned the FQHR preserves the integrity needed in the preservation of the original Quarter Horse.
